A family business
First off pronunciation, it works like this: Chi - like Tai-Chi, without Tai Rin - like ring (you always swallow the R anyway) Gui – like the french version of Guy to - like toe
Chiringuito is the old fashioned name for a beach bar or snack bar. Originally, Chiringuitos (one speaks of the year 1913) had sand floors. Old boats were filled with sand with a wood fire built in the middle for grilling. Today, there are still some corner sofas in the sand, but most of the tables and chairs are built on wood or even on a stone floor.
Chiringuitos are mostly family owned, and have been for generations. If you have been granted one of the lucrative locations on the beach, nobody gives it away ever again. The culinary offer includes the entire Spanish tapas range, fresh fish of course, but also pizza, pasta and international dishes are popular. The grill bbq is still an old discarded fishing wooden boat on charcoal usually peppered with skewers of fresh sardines.

To this day, Spanish extended families use Sunday for the family reunion in Chiringuito. Honestly, it's an experience in Spain nobody should miss.

Erstmal zur Aussprache, die geht so: Tschi - wie Hatschi, ohne Ha Rin- wie Ring (man verschluckt das R sowieso immer) Guito - wie Guido mit T
Chiringuitos. Die ursprüngliche Bezeichnung einer Strandbar oder Imbissbude ist etwas überholt, schaut man sich die heutigen modernen Restaurants / Bars an, die sich entlang der gesamten spanischen Küstenlinie aufreihen. Die ersten Chiringuitos (man spricht vom Jahr 1913) waren im Sand gebaut, und hatten entsprechend einen sandigen Boden. Heute finden sich noch einige Lounge-Eck-Sofas im Sand, der größte Teil der Tische und Stühle ist jedoch auf Holz- oder gar auf Steinboden gebaut.
Chiringuitos sind meist im Familienbesitz, und das oftmals seit Generationen. Hat man einen der lukrativen Standorte am Strand bewilligt bekommen, gibt niemand diesen wieder ab.
Das kulinarische Angebot umfasst die gesamte spanische Tapas Palette, frischer Fisch ist selbstverständlich, aber auch Pizza, Pasta und internationale Gerichte beliebt.
In Malaga, genauer gesagt in einem Vorort von Malaga El Palo, empfehle ich unbedingt das El Tintero. Ein Chiringuito der Extraklasse (Essen), ein besonderes Konzept mit viel Musik und Entertainment. Es ist lebhaft und laut, und hat seinen ganz eigenen Charme.
Gegrillt wird im alten ausrangierten Fischerei Holzboot auf Holzkohle.
Bis heute nutzen Spanische Großfamilien Sonntag zum Familientreffen im Chiringuito.
